Everything you need to know about SymTribe
Welcome to SymTribe
What is SymTribe?
SymTribe organizes small activity groups around preferences, availability, and location. When matching finds enough compatible people, it creates an event and invites the group.
How it works in three steps:
- Set up your profile - Choose activities, add preferences, fill in availability, and decide where you want to match.
- Get invited - Matching runs on a schedule and creates events when enough compatible people line up.
- RSVP and go - Respond on the event page, then follow the event updates there.
Who is SymTribe for?
People who want a clearer way to meet others for recurring activities. It works best when you know what you want to do, when you're free, and where you're willing to meet.
Getting Started
Creating Your Account
- Go to the SymTribe homepage and tap "Get Matched".
- Enter your email address and choose a password with at least 8 characters, one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, and one digit.
- Check the box to accept the Terms of Use and Disclaimer.
- Tap "Sign Up".
- Check your email inbox for a verification link and tap it to confirm your account.
- You're in! You'll be taken straight to the onboarding wizard.
Completing Your Profile (Onboarding)
After sign-up, onboarding collects the information SymTribe uses for matching.
Step 1 - About You
- Select your country from the dropdown list.
- Enter your display name (this is how other members will see you).
- Enter your city by typing and picking from the suggestions. This sets profile and map context.
- Optionally add your address as a profile detail.
- Optionally add your phone number. It's used if you want to join WhatsApp coordination for confirmed events, and it is not shown on your public profile.
Optional step - Photo
- You can upload an avatar before moving on to activities.
- This step is optional.
Step 2 - Choose Your Activities
- You'll see a grid of available activities supported in your market, such as Cycling, Running, Hiking, Dirt Biking, Family Hikes, Dog Walk, and Indoor Climbing.
- Tap one or more activity cards to select the ones you're interested in.
- Each card shows the activity name and a short description.
Step 3 - Preferences and Availability
- For each activity you selected, you'll fill in its preferences first.
- After that, you'll complete a separate availability step for that same activity.
- Available time slots are Early Morning (06:30), Morning (08:00), Late Morning (10:00), Afternoon (14:00), and Evening (17:00).
Step 4 - Matching Setup
- For each selected activity, choose the approved meeting spots where you want to be matched.
- If a city selector is shown, it only focuses the map and approved-spot list. SymTribe does not automatically discover city-wide match locations by default.
- Then choose your match sources: public events, group events, or both.
- After the last activity, you'll see a completion screen and then land on your Dashboard.
Logging In
- Go to the SymTribe homepage and tap "Log In" (or go directly to the login page).
- Enter your email and password.
- Tap "Log In".
Core Features
Dashboard
Your Dashboard is your home base. Here's what you'll find:
- Welcome header - Your name, avatar, and city.
- Upcoming Events - Cards showing events you've been invited to or confirmed for. Each card shows the event title, date, time, meeting point, weather details when available, and your RSVP status. Tap the card to see full details.
- Your Week - A 7-day board showing what matching can use for each activity. Hover on desktop or tap on mobile to inspect a day, then use "Edit schedule" to jump into that activity's schedule editor.
- My Groups - A quick view of your groups and any pending group invitations.
- Past Events - Events you've attended. You can leave feedback for any event you haven't reviewed yet.
Events
Viewing an event: Tap any event card to open the full event page. Here you'll see:
- Event title and description
- Activity type
- Date and time
- Meeting point (tap it to open in Google Maps), or a "Location Being Finalized" notice if the meeting point hasn't been chosen yet
- Event status such as Proposed, Confirmed, Expired, Cancelled, or Completed
- Number of confirmed participants
- Weather forecast with a risk level (green, yellow, orange, or red) when weather data is available
- Calendar links for confirmed events
- "About this match" section showing how the match was formed
- Event Chat where participants can send messages to everyone on the event
RSVPing to an event: When you're invited to an event, you'll see a "Your response is needed" prompt. You have two options:
- "I'm In!" - You're coming.
- "Can't Make It" - You won't be able to attend this time.
Your response saves automatically when you tap an option. You can change your mind at any time before the event.
Event lifecycle:
- Proposed - The event has been created and you've been invited. Your main action: RSVP so we can finalize the group.
- Confirmed - Enough people accepted before the cutoff. Calendar links appear, and eligible participants can join WhatsApp if that event has an active link.
- Expired - The RSVP cutoff passed before the event reached the acceptance threshold.
- Cancelled - The event was manually cancelled.
- Completed - The event has taken place. Leave feedback from the event page or Dashboard.
Leaving feedback: After an event is completed, you can rate your experience and leave a comment. Tap "Leave Feedback" on the event page or from your Dashboard's Past Events section.
Safety reporting: On any event page, you can use the "Report an issue" link at the bottom to report a safety concern. During the feedback process for completed events, you can also flag individual participants.
Nearby Events
Tap Nearby Events (compass icon) in the navigation bar to browse public events near the approved meeting spots you chose for matching. These are events you may not have been directly invited to but can still join when eligible.
Groups
Groups let you connect with a consistent set of people around a shared activity.
Viewing your groups: Go to Groups in the navigation. You'll see all groups you belong to, along with any pending invitations.
Accepting or declining a group invitation: When someone invites you to a group, you'll see it on your Dashboard and on the Groups page. Tap "View Group" to learn more, then "Accept" to join or "Decline" to pass.
Joining via share link: Group admins can generate a public join link that anyone can use. Tap the link, log in (or sign up), and you'll be taken to the group page where you can join.
Creating a new group:
- Go to the Groups page.
- Tap "Create New Group".
- Enter a group name, a short description, and choose the activity type.
- Tap "Create".
Inside a group:
- Group Feed - A shared space where members can post messages and updates.
- Members list - See who's in the group, their role (Owner, Admin, or Member), and when they joined.
- Invite members - If you're the group owner or an admin, you can invite new people by email.
- Share join link - Admins can copy a public link to share with anyone.
- Group locations - Admins can add meeting point locations for the group. Regular members can suggest locations, which appear as pending suggestions. Admins see approve and reject buttons inline on the group detail page.
- Group settings - Admins can toggle matching on or off, and configure the invite setup policy.
- Leave group - If you want to leave, scroll down and tap "Leave Group".
Scoped onboarding: When you join a group that has matching enabled, you may be asked to complete a short setup specific to that group's activity. This lets the system match you within the group.
Group preference overrides: Your group can have its own preference settings that override your global preferences for that activity, so you can fine-tune how you're matched within the group separately.
Notifications
In-app inbox: Tap the bell icon in the navigation bar to open your notification inbox. Here you can:
- View all your notifications or filter to Unread only.
- Tap a notification to mark it as read and go directly to the relevant page (event, group, feedback form, etc.).
- Tap "Mark all as read" to clear all unread badges at once.
- The badge count on the bell icon updates automatically.
Email notifications: SymTribe sends emails for event invitations, event reminders, and feedback requests. Every email includes an unsubscribe link at the bottom so you can manage that notification type without logging in.
Suggesting a Meeting Point
Know a great spot for an activity? You can suggest it as a meeting point.
- Open Suggest a Meeting Point at
/meeting-points/suggest. - Enter the place name and any helpful address or meeting details.
- Enter the latitude and longitude from the map or another source you trust.
- Enter the city where it's located.
- Optionally add a note explaining why it's a good spot.
- Choose which activity type it's best suited for (optional).
- Tap "Submit".
Your suggestion will be reviewed by an admin or regional moderator. Check My Suggestions for the current status; you may also receive a decision notification when it is approved or rejected.
Checking your suggestions: Open My Suggestions at /meeting-points/my-suggestions to see the status of all your submitted meeting points (Pending, Approved, or Rejected).
This is separate from group location suggestions. Group location suggestions are managed within each group's detail page.

Troubleshooting
I didn't receive a verification email
- Check your spam or junk folder.
- Make sure you entered the correct email address during signup.
- Wait a few minutes. Emails can sometimes take a moment to arrive.
- If it still hasn't arrived, try signing up again with the same email.
I can't log in
- Double-check your email and password. Passwords are case-sensitive.
- If you see "Please verify your email", check your inbox for the verification link and tap it before trying again.
- If you forgot your password, tap "Forgot password?" on the login page to reset it.
I'm not seeing any events on my Dashboard
- Check the Match Status block on your dashboard. It tells you exactly why you're not seeing events and what to do next.
- If it says "Complete your profile", finish the onboarding wizard to enter the matching pool.
- If it says "Set your location", go to Settings and choose approved match spots for that activity.
- If it says "Cooldown period active", you'll be re-entered into matching automatically once the cooldown expires.
- If it says "You're in the matching pool", be patient. Matching depends on having enough compatible people in your area. You'll get an email as soon as an event is created for you.
My RSVP didn't save
- Make sure you have a stable internet connection.
- Try tapping your RSVP choice again. It should save automatically.
- Refresh the page and check if your response appears.
I can't find the WhatsApp group link
- WhatsApp group links only appear for confirmed events (not proposed ones).
- You also need to have accepted the event, have a phone number on file, and have WhatsApp opt-in enabled in your profile settings.
- Open the event detail page and look for the WhatsApp section below the event details.
- If the event is confirmed but you don't see a link, the organizer may not have set one up yet.
The page looks broken or isn't loading properly
- Try refreshing the page (pull down on mobile, or press the refresh button).
- Clear your browser cache. Sometimes old files cause display issues.
- Try a different browser or device to see if the problem persists.
- Make sure your browser is up to date.

Tips for Best Use
Complete your profile
The more information you provide (skill level, availability, selected approved places), the better our matching works.
Keep preferences up to date
Schedule changed? Skill level improved? Update your preferences in Settings for better matches.
RSVP promptly
Events need a minimum number of confirmed attendees. Your quick "I'm In!" helps the whole group.
Leave feedback after events
Even a quick star rating helps improve matching and makes the community better for everyone.
Check the weather forecast
Event cards and detail pages show a weather forecast with a color-coded risk level. Use this to plan ahead.
Suggest great meeting points
Know a perfect starting point? Suggest it! Curated meeting points help everyone find safe and convenient locations.
Join or create a group
Groups are great for connecting with the same people regularly. Start one and use the group feed to stay in touch.
Check your notifications
We send invitations, reminders, and updates via email and the in-app inbox. Manage your preferences in Settings > Notifications.
Frequently Asked Questions
There is no payment or subscription settings page in the current app.
The matcher compares your activity preferences, availability, selected approved match spots, and enabled match sources. When enough compatible people line up, it creates an event and sends invitations. Matching runs on a schedule.
Yes. If you belong to a group with matching enabled, the system matches you within your group first. Only members who aren't already matched in a group event are included in the public matching pool. This means you won't receive duplicate invitations.
Our matching system runs regularly (typically daily). When it finds a good group match in your area, it creates an event and invites everyone. The frequency depends on how many compatible members are in your area.
Matching is automatic based on your preferences. You can't hand-pick your group, but you can fine-tune your preferences to influence the results. You can also create a private Group and invite specific people.
If enough people accept before the cutoff, the event becomes Confirmed. You'll receive an email, and the event page will show the next steps. If that event has an active WhatsApp link and you're eligible to use it, you'll see it there too.
Yes. Open the event page and change your RSVP at any time before the event takes place. Switching to "Can't Make It" lets the organizer know and frees up your spot.
Some confirmed events have an active WhatsApp link for accepted participants. It's used for coordination before the event. Joining it is optional.
Your phone number is only needed if you want to join WhatsApp coordination for confirmed events. It is not shown on your public profile. You also need WhatsApp opt-in turned on, and the event must have an active link.
Yes. During onboarding, or later from My Activities, you can join as many activity types as you like. Each activity has its own preferences and matching setup.
On any event page, use the "Report an issue" link at the bottom to submit a safety report. You can also flag individual participants during the feedback process after an event is completed. For general concerns, use the feedback button in the bottom-right corner.
Yes. SymTribe works in any mobile browser. There's no separate app to download. Just open the website on your phone and everything adjusts to fit your screen.
Make sure to include a clear place name, accurate coordinates, the correct city, and a helpful note about why the location works well, such as parking, shade, or easy access.
The progress circle is based on whether you've filled in your display name, city, phone number, joined activities, and saved preferences for those activities. A fuller profile gives matching more to work with.
Tap the link. If you already have an account, log in and you'll be taken to the group page where you can join. If you're new, sign up first. The link will work after you complete onboarding.
Green means good conditions. Yellow means fair conditions with minor concerns. Orange means poor conditions, and you should consider alternatives. Red means severe conditions that may affect the event.
